Design Project 1

In Design Project One, my research was mainly focused on the existing ostomy products and materials that strengthen the adhesion between the skin and the skin barrier. I also looked at the performance of hydrogel ostomy adhesives in particular. For my Independent Research in Healthcare Summary, I focused on the functions of the components of a two-piece system colostomy and the various materials used for each component.

Design Project 2

Compared to DP1, Design Project Two was definitely more technical therefore more in depth research was required. During the ideation stage I mainly focused on the causes of osteolysis and how will the porosity and the cross-sectional shape of the implant reduce bone degradation.

During the later stage of the project, my research was more directed towards implant materials. I proposed several materials that not only have high wear resistance but also are biocompatible.

As for my Independent Research in Healthcare Summary, my chosen topic was the ethics involving the human subject in joint replacement surgery. I looked at several ethical principles regarding surgical procedures such as the four principles proposed by Thomas Beauchamp and James Childress and the Declaration of Helsinki.
